Vancouver, BC, CANADA July 1, 2010 — Playdigm Entertainment has provided entertainment content for multiple formats since 1985 and continues to create new properties, as well as, develop their original brands.

GALACTIC GLADIATORS, originally released as a comic series distributed by Diamond Comics (distributor for Marvel Comics, Image, Darkhorse, Top Cow, DC Entertainment), is now being developed into a graphic novel.  For further information on this stage of the project contact admin@Playdigm. com.

The GALACTIC GLADIATORS screenplay is being written by Sandford Tuey, (the creator of the brand) with input from  the original team.  As soon as the second draft of the screenplay is completed, directors and producers will be approached. This highly charged action adventure leads Tessa, an animal rights, environmental activist to quit her dream, only to be abducted and forced to join a coalition of aliens and mutating humans to save our entire planet from an evil extraterrestrial species or our galaxy will be destroyed.

As you all know I provide entertainment and corporate management consulting for a living.  Recently, I was asked about branding a screenplay into several markets and these were my suggestions:

Once you have your 90 to 120 page screenplay and are marketing it/or your agent is packaging it, the writer could be do the following:

a) Copy and paste the script text into a word file, rewrite it as a novel by adding a few hundred more pages with more detail and sub-plots.  Instant second market to attract possible publishers.  You could also turn the screenplay into a book with a forward on why you wrote it, just like many others have done.

b) Or revise the screenplay into graphic novel/comic book format, if it has a franchise/toy and merchandise capability.  I did this with Galactic Gladiators and it added value to the whole project – got me an agent!

c) Have an artist create the poster for the movie (even if it is still just words on paper).  The large movie poster will help open doors that were shut and is a visual aid to your pitch.

d) Retain the best entertainment lawyer you can, even if you already have an agent. Read all the contracts that are put in front of you but also ensure you get guidance from your legal counsel, accountant, manager and agent if you are already represented.

By diversifying your project, you increase your chances of gaining a beach head in one or several markets, which in turn, will help you achieve your goals in the other areas you want to be in.

Persistence is Ominipotent!

To your success!

A Shift in Entertainment

Writers and Creators of stories, characters, novels, comics or any other intellectual property must not just think about the industry they are in.  A brand is much larger than the initial concept and how it is introduced to the public.

The original one page short story you write may be expanded into a 90 to 120 page screenplay, which in turn could be copied and pasted into word processing software and then reformatted and expanded with more details into a 300 page novel or non-fiction book. You can also reformat all this into a comic series or graphic novel (like I have done) or reformat the text into a video game script.  This allows you to diversify your one idea into many separate markets and saves a lot of time and work in gaining brand awareness.

The short story can be submitted to magazines, the screenplay to film and television producers, while the novel version can be sent to book publishers. The comic/graphic novel and video game script can be sent out to comic and video game publishers

This is a great way to move your writing project further if it is not selling or being optioned in another medium.  Diversify your brand for better sales, interest and awareness.

Multiple markets are the way to go.
